Strengthen Your Neck: Combat Poor Posture

Unfortunately in our current societies, computer usage is necessary for extended periods of time which increases the risks of computer-related muscular disorders like Forward Head Posture and Neck Pain.

However, there is some good news! According to recent research by Isha Sikka et al., it was determined that doing a neck strengthening and stabilizing program with postural education for the neck musculature can alleviate neck pain, and improve functional status.

Thinking of exercises for the neck can be very complicated. Where do you start? How many sets and reps do you do? How do you progress? How do I know if I am improving? These are some basic questions that can scare people away from starting a program to held with their neck pain and poor posture and function.

As a Kinesiologist, I assess all the metrics at the start of the session, and then build a program based on your results and goals. Over the course of a few weeks and months, I progress the exercises to continue improving the metrics, and then we re-assess to check the progress.
